In the first part of June 2016. we visited Belgrade, a capital city of Serbia and one of the most charming one in Southeast Europe. This town with an interesting history each year is a host for the largest regional festival of creativity and innovation – Mikser. This year for the fifth time at the location Savamala held from 8 – 12 June 2016 with the participation of some 1000 creators. The organizer said: “This year’s Mikser Festival comes under the slogan “Sensitive Society”, and will be characterized by themes of gender equality and female creativity, social equality, open dialogue, multiculturalism and more efficient conflict resolution.” The focus of this year was on female creativity and gender equality, as well as refugee crisis and their integration and cultural impact.

Through the five days of Festival visitor could attend to many different events. Very interesting was in Mikser house at Balkan Design Expo where attended designers and furniture producers from Bosnia and Herzegovina – Gazzda with Salih Teskeredžić, Zlatko Tanović and Zanat with Orhan Nikšić. The pieces of furniture which were exposed are on the top of European furniture design. Very sophisticated design solutions and details, joints and finishing. We were proud and happy that our wood industry raised to a higher level.

The future of young designers on Balkan is bright. They convinced us on that on the exhibition Young Balkan Designers.

The ceremony of opening this exhibition was on Wednesday, the 8th of June. We could see some fresh innovative solutions beneath of slogan “New Analogue”. Design projects that are bringing human touch back into design process and manufacturing, linking them directly to materials, crafts and techniques available in the Balkan culture.

In Mikser house was the finalist of regional design competition “New Memories” launched by Metalac company (from Gornji Milanovac – Serbia) and Balkan Design Network. The competition was open to all interested designers from the territory of Southeast Europe. The competition focus was to redesign the cult Metalac products for everyday use, owned by almost every household in the territory of former Yugoslavia, to reflect the ever-changing contemporary lifestyles, new found habits and daily rituals. The winner of competition is Nina Čačković from Tuzla with collection “One Two Three”.

After all, Belgrade is beautiful and gallant city which you should visit if you haven’t already. If you can manage that visit during Mikser Festival – the pleasure is double. We guarantee!
